The Freeway TA180 Transfer Aid is a practical and highly manoeuvrable mobility solution designed to assist individuals who retain some weight-bearing ability but require additional support due to reduced leg strength, balance concerns, or general frailty. Suitable for both professional healthcare settings and homecare environments, the TA180 enables safe and efficient transfers between beds, chairs, toilets, and other seating positions without the need for a wheelchair over short distances.
Engineered with user safety and caregiver convenience in mind, the TA180 features a stable and robust frame manufactured in the United Kingdom. With a safe working load of 185kg, it provides dependable support for a wide range of users. The braked rear castors ensure the unit remains secure and stable while the individual raises themselves from a seated position. Once standing, the integrated rear seat pads can be easily moved into place behind the user, offering reassurance and fall prevention during transfer.
The opening leg mechanism allows the base to widen, enabling the transfer aid to navigate around chairs, commodes, and other obstacles with ease. This flexibility ensures closer positioning to the user, promoting safer and more comfortable transfers. With a compact turning circle of 1,010mm, the TA180 is particularly well-suited to environments where space may be limited, such as bathrooms or bedrooms.
User comfort has been carefully considered throughout the design. The padded knee support provides stable lower limb positioning, while the supportive seat pads offer reassurance during movement. The TA180 is available with either a standard or wide foot tray, allowing the aid to be tailored to individual needs. Both trays are removable and share identical fixing points, making it straightforward to retrofit an alternative tray to an existing unit. This adaptability enhances long-term usability and flexibility within care environments.
Please note that the wide foot tray is not compatible with standard-sized wheelchairs, 17” shower, toilet or commode chairs, dining chairs, and certain riser recliner chairs. Careful consideration should therefore be given when selecting the appropriate configuration. For users who require additional upper body stability during transfers, an optional Back Support Belt is available. This accessory can be easily fitted and adjusted, providing further reassurance for both user and caregiver.
The TA180 promotes a more natural and dignified transfer experience. By supporting users in a semi-standing position, it allows improved eye contact and communication between the individual and the caregiver. It can also serve as a practical alternative to a wheelchair for short-distance transfers, reducing the need for multiple pieces of equipment and streamlining daily care routines.
Designed for durability and long-term performance, the Freeway TA180 includes a five-year warranty on metalwork (subject to terms and conditions for purchases from 1st April 2023), offering added confidence and peace of mind. Combining strength, manoeuvrability, and user-focused design, the TA180 represents a reliable and effective solution for safe patient transfers.
