What is the Safe Working Load (SWL) of the Oxford Journey?
The Oxford Journey has a safe working load capacity of 155 kg (24 stone / 342 lbs). Exceeding this weight limit can compromise the lift's stability and damage its electrical components.
Who is eligible or suitable to use this stand aid?
Because it is an "active" hoist, it is only suitable for patients who are in a sitting position and have some degree of weight-bearing capability. The patient must be able to support their own weight once raised and follow basic instructions. It is not suitable for completely passive or fully dependent individuals.
Can the Oxford Journey be folded for travel and storage?
Yes. One of its standout features is an ultra-compact, tool-free triangular folding design. It can be folded down in seconds and stands completely unassisted when stored, making it easy to fit into the boot of a standard family car.
What is the purpose of the "cow-horn" mechanism?
The Oxford Journey features a unique, adjustable "cow-horn" function. This allows caregivers to adjust the height and angle of the lifting arm to comfortably accommodate a much wider range of patient heights and body sizes compared to fixed-arm stand aids.
Which slings are compatible with the Oxford Journey?
It is designed to be used specifically with the Oxford range of active slings. The two primary choices are:
Oxford Standing Sling: For bringing the patient into a full standing position.
Oxford Transport Sling: For supporting the patient in a semi-seated position during quick transfers.
Should the castor brakes be applied during a transfer?
Generally, no. When lifting a patient from a seated position, the rear castors should be left unbraked. This allows the hoist to naturally find its own center of gravity. If the brakes are locked, the patient may swing uncomfortably.
Exception: Apply the brakes if a thorough risk assessment shows the patient is likely to push the hoist away with their feet, or if you are using it without the foot tray.
Can the Oxford Journey be used for walking rehabilitation?
Yes. The non-slip foot tray is completely detachable. By removing the foot tray and ensuring a careful risk assessment is completed, the Oxford Journey can function effectively as a walking and gait training aid.
What should I do if the hand control fails while a patient is raised?
All Oxford lifts are equipped with redundant controls. If the standard hand control wire or buttons fail, there are secondary raise and lower buttons located directly on the front of the main control box that caregivers can use to safely lower the patient.
What emergency backup systems does it have for total power failure?
If the battery completely dies or the electrical system fails while a patient is suspended, the electric actuator features a Mechanical Emergency Down mechanism (identified by a red boss/lever). Pulling this lever upward manually triggers a slow, controlled descent using the patient’s own weight.
How do the adjustable chassis legs work?
The legs at the base of the hoist can be opened or closed using a foot pedal at the rear of the unit. You should open the legs wide to navigate around wide structures like armchairs or wheelchairs, and close them when moving through narrow doorways or corridors. For safety, always make this adjustment while the hoist is moving rather than completely stationary.
How much does an Oxford journey stand aid 155 cost?
Average cost ranges from £1500-£3000 depending on the latest offers available online
Can I get an extended warranty?
YES, WE CAN OFFER YOU A 123 OR FOUR YEAR WARRANTY. THIS INCLUDES PARTS AND LABOUR FROM DAY ONE, CALL (01772) 814555 FOR FURTHER DETAILS.
